Project Overview

RIO 450 is the logo design concept I created for a online design contest for the 450th anniversary of Rio de Janeiro 2015 event.

My main inspiration for the brand was a bird from Rio. The bird is meant to represent the colorful, free spirit of the people of Brazil and the tropical land that encompasses the area.

The Challenge

The challenge was to create a logo that can incorporate all of the local enthusiasm and pride for Rio, in a very simple and straightforward way. Also, to help represent the excitement of the present moment, with the upcoming 2014 World Cup? and 2016 Olympics, while still remembering more than 4 centuries of history. I thought the colorful bird from RIO was a great all encompassing symbol for the nation's 450th anniversary.
